
Dr. Lauren Butler is a licensed psychologist in Maryland and California with extensive experience providing psychotherapy and assessments in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Butler currently serves as the Chief of Psychological Services at Spring Grove Hospital Center, a state psychiatric hospital in Maryland that provides care to a diverse population, including individuals with forensic involvement who are living with severe mental illness. In January 2020, she began her part-time private practice, Mid-Atlantic Psychology.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Butler serves as a mental health and behavioral consultant. She has provided formal instruction through The Halen Group, Inc., delivering training to law enforcement audiences focused on increasing understanding of mental health and enhancing strategies for evaluating risk for dangerousness. Her clients have included the United States Secret Service and the U.S. Capitol Police. She also works with The Counseling Team as part of its Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services supporting personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Dr. Butler earned her Bachelor of Arts with dual majors in Leadership Studies and Psychology from the University of Richmond. She received both her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Washington, D.C. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Spring Grove Hospital Center and her formal postdoctoral fellowship in the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and DBT Skills–Informed Intensive Outpatient Program at Sharp Mesa Vista in San Diego, California.
Dr. Butler has also trained in a variety of clinical settings conducting psychological, psychoeducational, and neuropsychological evaluations, including Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, Neuropsychology Associates of Fairfax, George Washington University Clinical Trials, and Potomac Psychological Center.
