Marie Apke has over 30 years experience working in Employee Assistance Programs. As the Chief Operating Officer, Marie Apke was the driving force of all Bensinger, DuPont & Associates (BDA) company programs and business pursuits. She was responsible for establishing and implementing EAP policies and programs, customizing problem gambling services and trainings, and developing relationships with insurance partners. She has developed innovative programs through the use of matching client needs with accessible interventions that are both phone and text based.
She was responsible for clinical oversight and supervision of all BDA problem gambling services since the very first helpline was established in 1996. In addition to providing clinical oversight and supervision of all clinical staff, she also played an active role developing compulsive gambling professional training programs.
Ms. Apke served as Illinois’ State Drug-Free Workplace Act resource, and was responsible for integrating substance abuse treatment coverage under State health care benefits for employees and their families. She was Personnel Manager for the State of Illinois, Department of Personnel, where she managed and directed technical and professional staff engaged in conducting position and salary analysis for all Northern Illinois State agencies.
Her involvement with state agencies and the public sector began when she held the position of Administrative Hearing Representative and Personnel/ Classification Analyst for the State of Illinois. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Apke worked at the Edgewater–Uptown Community Mental Health Center in Chicago and has experience working in both individual and marital counseling. Her clinical experience also included working with adjustment disorders and adult children of alcoholics.
Marie has a Master’s Degree in Counseling from National Louis University, Evanston, Illinois and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Urbana. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a NAADAC Certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), a Certified Employee Assistance Program Professional (CEAP), an International Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor (ICCGC), and a Certified Problem and Compulsive Gambling Counselor (PCGC). Marie is also a Board Member of the Northern Illinois Employee Assistance Association (NIEAPA), Leadership Illinois and The Simple Good.
